About Copenhagen Carnival

Copenhagen Carnival is a world carnival that celebrates the world’s many folk cultures with a focus on folk music and folk dance.

With more than 500 artists, 30 free concerts and dance shows, and the traditional Copenhagen Carnival Parade, an audience of more than 10.000 people are presented with folk genres such as samba from Brazil, Tango from Argentina, Folklore ballet from Mexico, Salsa from Cuba, and many more.

Organisation

Copenhagen Carnival is a nonprofit organisation with over 500 artists and volunteers who perform and work for free to keep Copenhagen Carnival a yearly tradition.

Event

Copenhagen Carnival takes place in the first and second weekend of June unfolding ten days of of music, dance, and cultural celebration in three different neighborhoods in Copenhagen.

Each part of the carnival has its own atmosphere – from vibrant street celebrations in the first weekend, to inspiring workshops and talks during the weekdays, and the final weekends magnificent carnival explosion in the historical park, Enghaveparken.

History

Copenhagen Carnival is Denmark’s oldest carnival dating back to 1982 and represents cultures from Denmark, Sweden, Norway, Germany, Argentina, Brazil, Colombia, Mexico, Cuba, Bolivia, Peru, Trinidad, Tobago, China, Ghana and many more.
