Rach Araújo: Guitar and vocalLetícia Salgueiro: Percussion With roots in the explosive carnival of Rio de Janeiro, where the duo originates, and a deep knowledge and love for the many folk music traditions across Brazil (i.e., maculelê, bossa nova, ijexa, samba reggae, maracatu and many more), the duo beautifully combines and interprets historical rhythms and harmonies using a large range of traditional percussion instrumentation sensible mixed with electronica, guitar and vocal. Guira Una are female band leaders in a male-dominated music culture in Brazil, and this takes immense strength. And this strength is evident everywhere in Guira Una’s vibrant performances, along with a uniquely compassionate touch that is guaranteed to move and teach you new ways to approach rhythm and harmony.
